Without knowing it, I’ve been working my way up the Great Chain of Being, from matter to body to mind to spirit. Starting as a kid I was interested in science and nature. I was also fascinated by religion and intrigued by art, especially classical painting. My first degrees were in biology as I loved studying science. However, I didn’t like doing it. I was interested in people and how things developed, how they become what they are. I made my way to psychology and have practiced as a psychotherapist for 30 years. Along the way I worked with people who are dying and was drawn to spiritual studies and Eastern practices. I trained in Zen and was ordained as a priest, having started the Austin Zen Center.
